ADOPTION PROCESS

ADOPTING A DOG

The decision to bring a new dog into your home is a big one. The Dolly Goodpuppy Society wants to make sure your adoption goes as smoothly as possible. With many wonderful dogs of all breeds, ages, sizes, and personalities to choose from, we will work with you to find one that is a great fit for you and your family.

Our process is a little more detailed than some rescues, but The Dolly Goodpuppy Society is committed not just to adopting as many dogs as quickly as possible, but to finding the right home for each dog, and the right dog for each adopter.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Before you begin the adoption process, consider the following:

  • Your current pets, if any, must be spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and dogs must be on heartworm prevention.
  • Do your homework on what type of dog (age, temperament, personality, etc.) is best for your family, your living situation, and your lifestyle.
  • If you rent, talk to your landlord about pet policies.

STEP 1

The Dolly Goodpuppy Society adoption process is fairly comprehensive. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, start the process by completing our online adoption application. If you are unsure which dog(s) you are interested in you can simply select any dog and complete the application. You are not obligated to that dog; the application simply gets the process started.

STEP 2

Our volunteers will review the completed application and contact you within a few days to conduct a phone interview.

STEP 3

After the interview is conducted, an on-site meet and greet at the Dolly Goodpuppy kennel can be scheduled. We encourage potential adopters to come to the kennel and spend time with the dog to determine if he/she is a good fit for you, your family, and your lifestyle.

Since we are primarily a volunteer driven organization, all visits to the kennel are by appointment only. This helps us ensure we have adequate staffing and ample time to spend introducing you to the dog(s) you are interested in adopting.

STEP 4

Prior to finalizing the application, we will conduct a home visit to verify all the information you supplied on the application and during the phone interview is accurate and the environment is a safe, appropriate home for the dog. The Dolly Goodpuppy Society reserves the right to deny an applicant based on the unique needs of each individual dog.
